During May and June, we have been ringing our
beloved barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) on behalf of the Fundación Monte
Mediterráneo. This work helps us to understand beter this species so closely
tied to our rural landscapes…
The ringing sessions took place on May 4th,
June 2nd, and June 25th, 2025, and here are the results:
·
80
birds ringed in total
·
49
chicks marked in the nest
·
31
adults captured
·
2
adults had been ringed in previous years (welcome back!)
·
6
birds ringed this year were recaptured during the campaign
This data not only allows us to better
understand the colony's breeding dynamics, but also helps detect site fidelity,
evaluate survival rates, and generate valuable information for the species'
conservation.
This work is carried out in close collaboration
with the Fundación Monte Mediterráneo. Together, we join forces to protect and
study the biodiversity of Dehesa San Francisco — a unique place where science,
conservation, and commitment go hand in hand.
We will continue working with scientific rigor
and a deep passion for birds.
