Did you know that Salamón, a picturesque
town in the province of León, only has one inhabitant in winter? Yes, Salamón,
not Salomón. Even if only a few people live there, that’s no reason to change
its name… Because, if you search the place properly on Google, you’ll see how
full of history and culture it is. And in summer, it comes alive: not only do
the streets fill with neighbours returning to enjoy the good weather, but there
are also other inhabitants who can easily be recognized by their tinkling sound
as they walk — the arrival of the flock, from Fundación Monte Mediterráneo.
There, between the village and the Las Pintas mountain pass, the transhumant
sheep settle in, grazing the pastures and becoming the stars of the season, as
no one wants to miss their presence. That’s why numerous events are held where
they take centre stage… which brings us to the news that our presentation took
place there: Caminos Trashumantes was shared at the “Ecomuseo de Lana Merina”
(Merino Wool Ecomuseum), where we spoke about the ideas that gave rise to the
project.
The 20th June 2025, we
presented the objectives and lines of work of Caminos Trashumantes to the attendees
of the event. We also told them that our project was regulated by the Ministry of
Industry and Tourism (Experiences Tourism Spain Programme, 2023 Call). By the
way, I forgot, when we saw that the presentation was coming to an end, we suggested
to the people not to go, as we were going for a walk to the mountain pass of Las
Pintas, while we interpreted the landscape that we were seeing. Thank goodness
that after all the steep slopes along the way, when we arrived at the top, we
were incredibly welcomed. A break for drinks and snacks, and so the walk down
the hill wasn’t so difficult.
And without further ado, I invite
you to click on our website, in the “Join the Network” section (https://caminostrashumantes.com/unete-a-la-red-de-caminos-trashumantes/); and if your initiative aligns
with transhumant culture, fill out the form right away—so you can become part
of (and visible within) our Sustainable Tourism Product Club.
Oh, and if curiosity gets the best
of you and you feel like exploring the other sections, we’ll be more than happy
to welcome you in. Don’t forget: if you have any questions, you can always
write to us by email.
Thank you, Salamón—because every
year, in the summer months, I feel so warmly welcomed here that it saddens me
to leave this small village behind!
