We are excited to announce that our flock of
Merino sheep of BioNNOMÍA has already began its annual transhumance trip a few
days ago. Thanks to the work and collaboration with the Fundación Monte
Mediterráneo, we carry out the loading and transport of our valuable sheep by
truck. This method allows for greater efficiency and speed, adapting to today’s
demands to ensure the well‑being of the animals as they head to
their destination: the impressive Las Pintas pass (Salamón), where they will enjoy the high‑mountain pastures throughout the summer months.
Years ago, this journey was made entirely on
foot, with shepherds, dogs, and flocks traveling along the historic drovers’
roads. Today, due to logistical and economic reasons, the lack of qualified
personnel, and the deterioration of the drovers’ infrastructure, very few farms
continue to practice traditional on‑foot
transhumance. Truck transport is an option that allows for greater speed,
higher efficiency, and less stress for the sheep, in addition to being the most
widespread method.
