Livestock marking: identity and safety for transhumance in BioNNOMÍA

After shearing, another essential stage in the preparation of our flock of BioNNOMÍA arrives: the marking with the iron of Fundación Monte Mediterráneo with paint. This is a key process before our sheep embark on their journey to the mountain passes of the Cantabrian Range.

In the high mountain pastures, where they can meet other flocks from other farms, this traditional system that uses marking with paint becomes the unmistakable identity of every sheep. It is our way of distinguishing "ours", ensuring their safety and streamlining its management within a collaborative setting. Moreover, it allows to identify the animal easier, for example, using binoculars, in case they wander off.

In Fundación Monte Mediterráneo, we handle the marking with equal care and respect for animal welfare as the shearing. It is another step in our commitment to ensure our sheep are well-prepared and safe for their vital role in ecosystem conservation.
