In Fundación Monte Mediterráneo, nature sets
the pace of our extensive livestock farming. During these days, we are immersed
in a crucial stage for the flock of sheep of BioNNOMÍA: the weaning of lambs. This
process, delicate and necessary, is paramount to prepare mother sheep for their
big journey.
The main goal of this weaning is to ensure that
the mothers are in their best physical condition to face the demanding
transhumance ahead. When they are separated from their young sheep, which begin
to be more independent, the elder ones recover their strength and energy to
spend summertime in the mountain pass Las Pintas, in Salamón (León).
This cycle, that combines animal husbandry in
the Dehesa with transhumance at the mountain passes, is the heart of our
livestock model, which takes care of animal welfare and contributes to the sustainability
of our ecosystems.
We will soon see our sheep leaving for summer
pastures!
