In the
north of the province of Córdoba, around 80,000 people have been living without
clean drinking water from the tap since April. Four members of the citizens'
initiative "Plataforma ¡agua ya!" went on hunger strike to persuade
the responsible authorities in the central, state and provincial governments to
find a solution. Fundación Monte Mediterráneo delivered 400 liters of Fuentes
de Lebanza's ecologically certified mineral water as a symbolic show of
solidarity. Fuentes de Lebanza also sent solidarity greetings of support.
Hans-Gerd
Neglein, founder of the Fundación Monte Mediterráneo (96, pictured with red
jacket) emphasized the commitment of Francisco Casero, the initiator of the
hunger strike, with moving words: for decades, Francisco Casero (pictured next
to H-G. Neglein) has been committed to the interests of rural areas and their
inhabitants. Among other things, Casero initiated the creation of the Comité
Andaluz de Agricultura Ecológica (CAAE), which is now Europe's largest organic
certifier. CAAE is also the certifier of the Fuentes de Lebanza mineral water,
whose springs are not far from the mountain pastures in northern Spain, where
thousands of sheep from Andalusia and Extremadura are allowed to spend their
summers thanks to the Fundación Monte Mediterráneo's initiative to preserve
transhumance.
