This „natural insecticide en miniature“  - gecko (Tarentola mauritanica)(Gekkonidae) lives on flies, mosquitos, moths, etc. and has several peculiar characteristics:

 

  • The geckos can lose their tail – it grows again (autotomy)

  • They have 12 adhesive toe pads which enables them to grab and climb onto smooth and vertical surfaces – even cross indoor ceilings

  • They change their color: during the day, they are dark to protect them from solar radiation, during the night they have a rather light color

  • Their life expectancy is 6 to 12 years

  • During the reproductive process, the male bites the female in the balley
